Applications are invited from CSIR institutes for the award of Raman Research Fellowships 
during the year 2014-2015. The Raman Research Fellowships are granted to the CSIR researchers for carrying out research in the emerging / high priority areas. It is tenable at foreign institutions / R&D Centres of excellence. The entire cost is met by CSIR HQs. 
Applications of eligible and meritorious candidates may be forwarded in the enclosed proforma  at Annexure-I after thorough and careful evaluation. The details regarding eligibility, terms & conditions etc. may be seen at Annexure-II. It would be appreciated if the number of applicants from each institute is restricted to a maximum of two only. 

The candidates are required to submit 7 (seven) copies of their application form. In

RESEARCH TRAINING FELLOWSHIP FOR DEVELOPING COUNTRY SCIENTISTS (RTF-DCS)
As an instrument for the promotion of South-South Cooperation in Science and 
Technology, the Centre for Science and Technology of the Non-Aligned and Other 
Developing Countries (NAM S&T Centre) had initiated a Fellowship scheme titled 
‘Research Training Fellowship for Developing Country Scientists (RTF-DCS)’ in 2012, 
which is sponsored by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of 
India. The Fellowship aims at capacity building of young researchers of the developing 
countries in science and technology by giving them opportunities to affiliate themselves 
with premier academic and research institutions in India with full financial support including 
their international travel, and local hospitality, etc. DEVELOPING COUNTRY SCIENTISTS FellowShip of DST
The NAM S&T Centre invites applications from the eligible scientists of the developing 
countries for RTF-DCS for the financial year 2013–14 (April 2013 to March 2014).

Twenty (20) scientists and researchers from the NAM and other developing countries will 
be selected under the RTF-DCS Scheme this year to get affiliated with Indian institutions.
Generally, maximum one Fellow will be selected from any particular country, but in 
exceptional cases, this may be relaxed. DEVELOPING COUNTRY SCIENTISTS FellowShip of DST
The Fellowship will be for a period of six months, but some variation in the duration may be 
allowed with prior approval of the NAM S&T Centre depending upon the actual requirement 
of the research project as mutually agreed between the Fellow and the host institution.
India has a vast and excellent infrastructure for Education and Research in Science, 
Technology and Engineering. There are ~45,000 Science Colleges, around 3400
Engineering & Technology Institutes, over 550 Universities, and an extensive network of 
~2500 R&D Institutions, which are mostly Government supported and cover virtually every 
branch and facet of science, technology and engineering. For this year, Fellowship will be 
offered in the following broad disciplines:
1. Agricultural Sciences
2. Biological and Medical Sciences
3. Chemical Sciences
4. Physical Sciences and Mathematics
5. Earth Sciences
6. Engineering Sciences
7. Materials, Minerals and Metallurgy
8. Multi-disciplinary and Other Areas
A suggestive list of Indian institutions which may accept scientists to provide joint research 
opportunity to the scientists of the developing countries under RTF-DCS along with the 
areas of research offered by them is enclosed (Please see Para-3 under Section – VIII: 
Submission of Application and Selection Criteria). DEVELOPING COUNTRY SCIENTISTS FellowShip of DST
1. Applicant should possess at least a Master’s Degree in any Natural Science subject or 
an equivalent degree in Engineering or Medicine and allied disciplines.
2. Applicant should be working in a National R&D or Academic Institution in his/her home 
country. The application should be endorsed by the Head of his/her institution
confirming that if selected, he/she will be sanctioned leave for the Fellowship period 
and will join his/her duties back in the institution on completion of the Fellowship in India.
3. The upper age limit for the applicant is 40 years on the last date for submission of 
application.
4. Researchers of Indian Nationality are not eligible for the Fellowship.

Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR) launch joint call for pre- proposalsfor collaborative research for the year 2014. In India, on behalf of the  Department of Science & Technology, Indo-French Centre for Promotion of Advanced Research,  IFCPAR (Centre Franco-Indien pour la Promotion de la RechercheAvancée, CEFIPRA) invites preproposals from the Indian scientists / researchers under DST-ANRMoU.
Targeted topics for the call Thrust areas of research for this call are: France DST ANR Fellowship for Indians
a) Neurosciences
b) Engineering Sciences (Sub-areas: Material Science, Chemistry, Intelligent Transport System
andEnergy) 
Research Funding
The investigators of thejointly selected pre-proposals will be requested to submit full proposal. The 
finally selected full proposals will be funded in India by DST and in France by ANR. The joint 
projects must meet the criteria of both the funding agencies for consideration. The research projects 
will be funded for a maximum of three years.
Application procedure for submission of Pre-proposals
The French researchers apply for funding in accordance with ANR rules and the Indian researchers in 
accordance with DST rules, both using their own application procedure. The joint proposal shall be 
written in English. Pre-proposals submitted to only one side will not be eligible.All applicants must 
fulfil national eligibility rules for their research grant application. A format is given for the submission of pre-proposal. Link

The project budget must clearly delineate justified Indian and French costs. The costs of the Indian 
partner must be eligible as per the guidelines of the DST. Accordingly, the costs of the French partner 
must be eligible as per the guidelines of the ANR. Applicants are reminded to include sufficient 
budget for travel between India and France to ensure successful collaboration. 
When drawing up their budget, applicants shall take into account that ANR pays the travel expenses 
of the visiting French researcher in India as well as his/her accommodation, and per diem allowances. 
Correspondingly, DST pays the travel expenses in France of the Indian researcher as well as his/her 
accommodation and per diem allowances as per CEFIPRA norms. 
Review process and evaluation for Pre-proposals
ANR and DST will each arrange the evaluation of the applications they receive according to their own 
rules, regulations and practices. ANR and DST will form a mutual understanding on the pre-proposals

to be selected for submission of full proposals.The evaluation criteria of the ANR and DST are: 
- scientific quality and innovativeness of the research plan
- added value of the Indo-French research collaboration
- feasibility of the research plan 
- scientific merits and results of the French and Indian researchers/research teams 
- support for careers of young researchers. 
Based on the scientific evaluation, national ranking, and consensus reached through discussions, both 
DST & ANRwill select the pre-proposals for the submission of full-proposal.

The Indian research team applies for funding from the DST in accordance with the DST’s guidelines. 
DST advises applicants to make sure that their cooperation partner is eligible to apply for funding

Who was Charles Wallace? UK Scholarship for Indians


Charles Wallace was born in Calcutta in 1855. He lived, worked and flourished there, founding the Shaw Wallace company (though there are no connections now between CWIT and Shaw Wallace).

Charles Wallace died in 1916, bequeathing his modest fortune to his family for a generation and then for the benefit of those among whom he had made it.

About CWIT UK Scholarship for Indians

In 1981, following an agreement between the Indian and British governments, CWIT was established as an English charity. It is run by four trustees, one nominated by the British Council. The trustees cover CWIT’s main areas of interest and are Ingval Maxwell, Dr Yasmin Khan, Caroline Douglas and Colin Perchard ( British Council nominee). The Secretary is Richard Alford.

In over 30 years CWIT has made around 2700 grants. British Council India advises on CWIT’s work and gives valuable administrative support including guidance on applying for a visa.
